In this project, you create a personal Web site entirely on your own. There will be no Data Files supplied. Each Your Site Independent Challenge will build from unit to unit, so you must do each Your Site assignment in each unit to complete your Web site.

Decide what type of Web site you would like to build. It can be a personal Web site about you and your family, a business Web site if you have a business you would like to promote, or a fictitious Web site. Your instructor may direct your choices for this assignment.

Create a storyboard for your Web site and include at least four pages. (P. 26-27)

Create a root folder where you store your Web site files and name it appropriately.

 

Define the Web site with an appropriate name, using the root folder that you created.

Create an assets folder and set it as the default location for images.

 

Begin planning the content you would like to use for the home page and plan how you would like to organize it on the page.

 

Collect information to use in your Web site, such as pictures or text. Store these in a folder (paper or electronic) that you can bring with you to class as you develop your site.

Insert a brief description and a list of meaningful keywords for your home page in the appropriate locations.

Insert an effective title for your home page.

Format the home page attractively, creating a strong contrast between your page background and your page content.

Add links from the home page to your other pages.

Insert an e-mail link.

Insert a “Last updated” statement that includes a date that updates automatically when you save the file.

 

Preview the home page in your browser, verifying that each link works correctly.

Check the page for errors in content or format and edit as necessary.

 

Save your work, close the page, and exit the program.

Assessment:

  • Mr. B. will assess your project in class on Monday, 21 December and Thursday, 24 December.

  • Be sure to complete your project on your laptop and bring your laptop to all classes.
